FORGIVING YOURSELF
Some of us may quickly forgive the offenses of others but regret our own poor choices. We may feel safer and more in control by remaining angry with ourselves, but that control is not real and gets eroded quickly. We must learn to extend the same grace we have given others to ourselves. We may feel exposed and vulnerable in the process, but this is the time to rely even more on the Lordâs comfort and strength. We can be honest with Him. If we are angry at Him or do not trust Him, we can talk those things out with Him free from guilt or fear. These honest conversations can start the forgiveness process and give a clearer understanding of the Lordâs character.
God sent His only Son to this world to die so that we could be free from sin. When we do not forgive ourselves, we are essentially saying that Jesusâs death on the cross is not enough for us. God is faithful and just and very gentle with us. In Psalm 103:12 God promises to remove our sin as far as the east in from the west.
Forgiving yourself is no easy task, but the freedom that follows is immeasurable. Trust Him with your hurts and those things you feel so ashamed aboutâditch the baggage of shame and receive what God has already done for us.
